Our modern world is heavily reliant on digital technologies, and internet access has become an integral part of our daily lives. However, it’s possible to encounter common internet issues such as connectivity problems, downtimes, and complete outages.

Such internet issues can cause significant inconvenience to businesses, disrupting productivity and hinder communication. Fortunately, such issues can be resolved with minimal intervention.

In this guide, we at Tonycomm Group LTD gives you solutions to some of the most common internet problems, so you can restore your internet connection fast.

8 Common Internet Connection Problems & How to Fix Them

The following are the most common internet connection issues that many users face, as well as how to fix them:

1. Slow Internet

Often, slow internet arises when multiple devices are connected and active on the same network.

To get your speed back to normal:

  • Log in to your user dashboard and check the devices connected to your network.
  • Stop, block, or remove any device that you do not recognize from your network.
  • Change your router’s password if you’re unsure how many people have access to your network.

But if you are the only user connected to the network and the speeds are still slow, it may imply that you are far away from your router. In such a case, move closer to or go to the room that has the router.

2. ISP Outage

It is possible that the root of the problem is the service outage, which occurs when your internet goes out completely due to maintenance or upgrades that we’re doing at Tonycomm Group LTD.

It is advisable to reach out to us and inquire whether any adjustments or equipment upgrades are underway. If we confirm such activities, then the issue is not within your control, and you will have to wait for our team to complete the upgrade process.

3. Wireless Internet and Router Configuration Problem

Improper router configuration is also a factor that can lead to poor or no wireless internet connection. Inaccurate settings such as firewall misconfiguration, IP address conflicts, and outdated firmware can equally affect your router’s ability to route traffic.

To rectify this:

  • Access your user dashboard and verify that all configurations and settings are accurately set up.
  • Contact Tonycomm Group LTD and we’ll send over a technician to your home or business to configure the settings if you can’t get it right.

4. DNS Signal Issues

If you’re unable to access websites due to DNS resolution issues, it’s likely due to inaccurately configured settings, DNS server failures, or malware attacks.

Restarting your router can often solve the problem. If you have a TP-Link router, for example, simply press the button behind for 10 seconds to restore the factory settings. With this simple action, you can confidently resolve DNS resolution problems and get back to browsing the web.

5. Weak Wi-Fi Signals

A poor Wi-Fi signal will result in limited coverage and poor internet connection at your home or office.

To be clear, your location determines how strong or weak your Wi-Fi signals are likely to be. For example, remote areas or dead zones receive poor signals, which result in poor internet connection.

If you are in a more developed area such as Lanet or Kiti and you Wi-Fi signal issues, it means your device is far from your router, you have many devices connected to the same network, or obstacles such as trees are interfering with the signals.

Contact Tonycomm Group LTD and we’ll send over one of our technicians to help you fix the weak Wi-Fi signal issue. Mostly we’ll have your LightBeam positioned elsewhere in your compound.

6. Intermittent Connectivity

Intermittent connectivity issues can pose a frustrating user experience for internet users. The signs of intermittent connectivity include a weak internet connection that makes it difficult to maintain consistent online activities.

However, there are a couple of ways to fix this problem.

  • Restart your router. Login to your router via the web browser and reboot the network via dashboard.
  • Restart the LightBeam. Turn off power in your home or unplug the LightBeam from the power source.
  • Reset your network settings to default and configure them again.
  • Avoid signal interference by connecting some devices to the router through an Ethernet cable, as wired connections are less susceptible to interruptions in signal.

7. IP Address Conflict

An IP address conflict occurs when two or more devices are on the same internet network.

The primary purpose of an IP address is to facilitate communication and data exchange between specific networks and devices. As each device is supposed to have a unique IP address, encountering two or more devices with identical IP addresses can cause communication errors and even network jams.

It is likely that the issue arose due to the manual assignment of an IP address that already assigned to another device. To resolve this problem, we recommend that you configure your devices to obtain dynamic IP addresses from the DHC server.

8. Internet Security Issues

Network security is a crucial aspect that can significantly affect the integrity, confidentiality, and safety of your network and data.

Failure to maintain an optimal level of network security can lead to various unwanted scenarios, including data theft, unauthorized access, data loss, data corruption, and phishing attacks.

We recommend that you take immediate action to mitigate any issue arising from internet security.

One of the easiest and most effective ways to address the problem is to restart your router and reconfigure it. This can help restore the security settings and prevent any potential security breaches that may compromise the safety and privacy of your network.
